Lessons Learned

I learned a great deal in this class. Not only did I learn about the embedded importance of arts within the curriculum through my research on my advocacy topic, but I learned how to become more involved in the education system. It is not enough to just have thoughts and ideas on how things should be, but it is my responsibility to do something about it if my research proves worthy regarding the topic at hand. Furthermore, I will never underestimate the power of an outline when writing.

As for my topic, Learning through the Arts, art is vital within early childhood. It is developmentally appropriate, universal for learners of diverse needs and backgrounds, it is expressive and exploratory, and there is no means of wrong or failure just expression of understanding based off of personal experience and comprehension. When creativity is merged with the learning process our students are actively engaged and are able to apply their knowledge through their own means.

    1. Kelly, your blogs were so informative and interesting to read. Thank you for being an advocate for arts in the schools. Our society needs dedicated teachers that will advocate for the benefit of the children.

  2. I enjoyed reading your Advocacy Plan. You will need to blog in ECE 455 so keep on blogging and implement that Advocacy Plan. Have a great summer and good luck with your new profession.

  3. Kelly, after all you've learned through this class doing your advocacy plan, it's it heart breaking to know that many schools don't have the Arts in their schools? Your topic was great, great enough that I believe many CPS schools should take account all the ways that children learn through the arts and somehow find funding for it. Take care and good luck in the future.

  4. Kelly,

Thank you for your insights into learning through the arts. You are correct, art is very important. Art is a form of communication that children learn as toddlers. Thank you for helping to remind us all how children use this as an early form of communication and expression of themselves. I hope that we will all try to understand its value even more as we continue to understand the ways that children learn best. Again, thank you and may you have much success in your future endeavors with children and families.
